Social Studies 9-12:
Government and Economics
The first half of this course covers the U.S. government; the roles and responsibilities of the Executive Branch, the Legislative Branch, and the Judicial Branch and how they interact. Homeschoolers explore how outside factors such as special interest groups and the media affect the government. The second half of the course is an introduction to the study of economics. Students will become familiar with the “language” of economics and investigate the difference between microeconomics and macroeconomics. Students will also examine the impact of the economy on the U.S. government. Students should possess basic algebra skills for success in this course.
The Government and Economics eBook is based on the premise that the individual is a personal creation of God and that government is man's agent for the protection of God's gifts. The American government is means to protect and promote the end for which all men were and are created equal. The freedoms we possess are not the cause but the consequences of our God-given liberties. All of its agents and procedures are designed to protect the integrity, dignity, and freedom of the human spirit. Forms of government such as dictatorship will be examined. The development of the American constitutional system and the checks and balances of authority will be covered. There will also be a special section
