Bienvenue!

Salut, tout le monde! Bienvenue à la classe française!

(Hello everyone! Welcome to first year French!)

This course will serve as an excellent introduction to reading, writing and speaking French, introducing you to many conversational and grammatical skills. It is the goal of this course to prepare you for future French studies. Please read the following guidelines closely.

  • Please study all directions and readings in each assignment FIRST. Then, you may move on to your assignment. Failure to follow directions will create a great amount of confusion and anguish. The directions will tell you exactly what you need to read, study and/or type.

  • If you have seen French text before, you may have noticed several different accented letters (called diacritical marks). (Examples: à ç é î ô è)  While you are strongly encouraged to memorize when and where these accents show up, you are not required to include them in the work you will submit. Consider them optional. However, if you do choose to include them, please use a word processing program to produce these marks. Copy and paste them into your online assignment.

  • Any use of automatic translating services to complete your work is strictly forbidden in this course. Such use constitutes plagiarism and destroys your academic integrity as a student.

  • There are 108 total lessons, broken down into 36 weeks with three lessons a week.

  • Bonne chance! (Good luck!)

Before beginning actual French coursework, we shall devote a few lessons to learning some history of the French language.
