Being able to tell how
one thing is over or under another thing , or how one thing is the same
or different from another thing, is an important skill. In this lesson,
your student will learn how to identify and describe things in relation
to their position. Your student will also learn to sort items using the
simple characteristics of color, size and shape.

will be learning about the positions top, middle and
bottom. Explain to him or her that these describe the place where
something is located. Show him or her where the top, middle and bottom
shelves of a bookcase. If you don't have a bookcase, anything in your
home with a clear top, middle and bottom level will work as your model.
Place a book or another object on the top shelf. Say, This is the top
shelf. Explain that the highest part of something is the top.
Draw a picture of something tall, such as a mountain or a house. Have
your student point to the top of the picture. Then ask the student to
show you the top of his or her body. (top of head).
