UNITY AS CHRISTIANS

The New Hope Homeschool is blessed to have students representing many denominational backgrounds within the Christian faith. Each group that you represent has certain traditions and teachings that are unique to them. Some of these make for different teachings among those of us who are evangelical Christians.

In my own denomination, we have a motto that goes like this: In the essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity. I like this very much because it means that all Christians need to agree about “essential” things, things like Jesus was God, he died for our sins, and he rose from the dead. Christians also agree that he was born of the Virgin Mary and that he is coming again. Non-essential things are important, but as Christians from different backgrounds, we may disagree. For example, many Christians disagree about when and how Jesus will return or how often to celebrate communion. These things are important to us as believers, but they are not what will determine whether or not we are saved. In those things, we need to give each other breathing room and respect. In all things that relate to our faith, and the life we share together as Christians, we are to show each other “charity,” or love. It is this kind of spirit that we are encouraging at New Hope Homeschool.
May the Lord bless and keep us all in the coming week.
